This is Why Self-Help Doesn’t Work for Most People
3. Knowledge without reason is useless.
Here’s the truth: most people will read self-improvement content and get nowhere. Their life will continue to be the same despite taking on new knowledge and inspirational ideas.
However, why is that? How can two people read the same book and one use it as a platform to change their life, while the other simply stays the same?
I would say it’s not the material that fails people. Instead, it’s the difference in people’s attitudes and behaviors. Specifically, these are my reasons for why self-help doesn’t work for most people:
1. To change, you have to want to change.
“If you want to transform your life, you must be willing to give up the one you have.” -Benjamin P. Hardy
The reality is, most don’t actually want to change their lives. Instead, they just want a quick fix. They want a silver bullet that will magically solve their most pressing problems.
Although, Srinivas Rao brilliantly said,
“If you want to live an exceptional and extraordinary life, you have to give up many of the things that are part of a normal one.”
